What will your child be learning this year in reading?
Throughout the course of the year we will be covering all of the 3rd Grade Common Core Reading State Standards. I have broken down the units we cover below.
September- October: Building a Reading Life through Fictional Books
November: Mystery Books
December: Poetry
January-February: Non-Fiction Reading through the integration of Forces and Motion
February- March: Biography Book Clubs
March- April: Informational Reading- Reading, Research, and Writing in Content Areas
May- June: Character Building through both Fictional and Non-Fictional Texts
It is through developing our reading strategies in and out of the classroom that the students will continue to develop their reading skills. Here is a visual to help understand how we will be doing close reading in the classroom.

3rd Grade Reading Log Information
Click HERE to see a copy of your child's weekly reading log. Your child will be bringing home a weekly reading log. This reading log needs to be signed by the parent or guardian and turned in on Fridays in order for your child to participate in the Fun Friday Activity.
Since this is the only homework that will be assigned to your child, it is essential that your child reads at least 100 minutes a week. A great way to get these minutes in is to read 20 minutes a night. I understand that some nights are busier than others, so if there are nights where there is less reading and other nights when there is more that is okay! In order for your child to participate in the Fun Friday activity I am asking that these Reading Logs get returned on Friday AND are signed or initialed by YOU. Your child can keep this log in their book bag to help them keep track of it.
